MBE for Apex volunteer

He’s been part of the organising team for almost every Apex Challenge event, and today John Hall has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List.

John, who helps coordinate the massive catering effort at the events, was awarded his new title for services to the Scouting Movement. He joined as a cub more than sixty years ago and is still heavily involved with Scouting events and groups in Sheffield. He’s part of the Woodseats Scout group, where most of the Apex Organising team were members and has always been a hugely valued member of the Apex team.

Event Director, Matt Richards said. “John is a living legend! He’s probably the most influential and inspiring person I’ve ever met – constantly encouraging people to push themselves and try new things. We’ve all had some great experiences on the trips he organised for us across Europe and must have inspired thousands of young people in his time to achieve loads of great things. It’s an honour for us to have him as part of the Apex team – and I’m sure he’ll be continuing to offer his unique humour and encouragement at many more events!”

John was unable to comment as, guess what, he was leading a trip away to Wales with a group of Explorer Scouts!

From everyone at Apex – congratulations John – it’s recognition that’s richly deserved!
