Sad news – Chris Plant

It is with great sadness that we have to share the news with you that Chris Plant, a huge supporter of the Apex Challenge and a valued member of the organising team, has died.

Chris had been fighting cancer for some time, and sadly passed away in his sleep yesterday.

Ever since the Apex Challenge started in 2002, Chris had been a key member of the safety and communications team, using his expertise and enthusiasm to help ensure the events ran smoothly.

Always happy to take on any role asked of him, he could often be found manning the emergency radios, marshalling cars in the parking areas, or organising the results booklets at the end of the events. And it was always done with a smile and a joke.

Chris was also widely known and hugely respected throughout South Yorkshire Scouts in his role as a Nights Away Advisor, and ensured all the permissions and paperwork was in place ahead of each Apex Challenge event. He received an award for 20 years of service to Scouting, and enjoyed meeting the Chief Scout himself during a recent visit to South Yorkshire.

Chris will be remembered for all his enthusiasm for the Apex Challenge, and for Scouting in general, and we thank him for all he has done for the event.
