This weekend’s Synergise event at Hesley Wood has been postponed after the county Scout campsite was deemed too waterlogged for the event to go ahead.
It means the Apex Intense competition, which was due to take place on both the Saturday and Sunday will no longer be happening.
The Synergise organisers say they were left with no option but to postpone the event due to the serious safety and logistical implications. One member of the committee said it was the worst he’d ever seen the site looking, and it simply wouldn’t be possible to hold such a big event there in these conditions.
The announcement came on the same day that the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate was cancelled, and just days after the national Cliffhanger event in Sheffield was also called off due to the weather.
The county team is now gathering to look at other potential dates in September, or the event may be delayed until next year. Further details are available on the South Yorkshire Scouts website.
Meanwhile the Apex Challenge team will be using the weekend to carry on planning the huge landmark Apex Challenge event taking place in the Peak District in October to mark the competition’s tenth anniversary. More details will be available in the next few weeks.
