Apex leads the way as new Scout Active Support unit

The Apex Challenge is leading the way becoming one of the country’s first Scout Active Support units. To those taking part in our events there will be no obvious changes, but behind the scenes it formalises the link between the Apex Challenge team and South Yorkshire Scouts which have been supporting us since we started back in 2002.

Over the next 12 months more and more Scout Active Support units will be set up to replace the previous Scout Fellowships. The idea is to give those adults who help out in Scouting during the year an official place within the Scout movement. It’s the perfect arrangement for giving the Apex Challenge a secure future as well as bringing into Scouting those members of the team who have previously only been involved on an ad hoc basis.

Behind the scenes we’re busy setting up the new structure of the Apex Challenge SAS Unit with the team at South Yorkshire Scouts. So far it’s all been very straightforward and next February when all the changes are in place it’ll be full steam ahead planning our next two events for 2010.

We’ve already got together for slightly chilly weekend camping in the Lake District (thankfully before the recent floods) to run through ideas and we’ve got some great ideas to be working on already to make sure that the next two competitions are, once again, even better than those we held during 2009.

Keep checking online – there’ll be more details in the new year!
