It was clearly a wet one this year, but the rain and mist was certainly not going to get in the way of nearly 200 Explorer and Network Scouts out to have a great time at the 2005 Apex Daytime Challenge.
It’s fair to say this is about as tough as Apex events can get. We had the biggest ever area with more exciting activities than ever before but all 41 teams rose to that challenge and the result was an action-packed, wet and wild day.
The base organisers weren’t going to let the weather get the better of them either with some brand new adventures on offer. Teams had their accuracy tested at the air rifle shooting base and also when they had to take control of professional firefighting equipment and direct a high powered jet of water across a valley to their team mates.
Elsewhere, even though water was pouring down the rocks, it didn’t stop scores of teams successfully tackling the climbing and abseiling challenges and the weather added even more to waterslide and water bomb ‘wanging’ bases!
By the time everyone returned to the marquee, most were soaked to the skin but still it was smiles all round. The weather it seems can’t take any of the fun out of the Apex Challenge.
